St. John’s and Winton Primary

All children arrived safely and have had a busy day getting to grips with their new surroundings.

Blue group-St. John’s

Today we drove to Whiting Bay and learned how to set our maps to direct us to kings cross point. Blake was our designated map reader and lead us in the right direction. We walked along the pebbly beach and Daz, our own instructor, taught us all about different types of rocks. We also skimmed rocks and had a bit of a competition to see who could skim the furthest. We made it up to Kings Cross Point and talked about Holy Isle and the history of the Vikings. In the evening we played team building games and we came to the conclusion that we are not good at whispering instructions!! We are looking forward to having more adventures tomorrow.

Red group – Winton

We had an exciting morning collecting all of our kits and settling into our rooms. After a delicious lunch our instructor Martin drove us to Whiting Bay. We were taught how to set and follow a map, which lead us to Kings Cross Point where we learned some interesting facts about Viking history. On the way to Whiting Bay we loved getting to see some seals out on the rocks. This evening we took part in three different team building activities. We are very proud to say that the red group gained the most points and won the team building competition. We are looking forward to our activities tomorrow even though we are dreading the early morning wake up call.

Green group- St. John’s

Today we enjoyed a walk along to Dunn Fion. We learned how to set our map and we each had a shot of being first and last in the group. We talked about the no take zone between Lamlash and Holy Isle. We enjoyed catching a glimpse of a seal lounging on a rock. We learned about the pill box from the Second World War which we saw in the middle of our walk. On our way back to the centre we had to put on our head torches as it was starting to get really dark. When we got back we enjoyed a delicious dinner then took part in team building activities. We have all had a great day and can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
